Calculating pregnancy
Ok- so I said I was going to blog about this. Here it is.
A pet peeve of mine is how people say they are a month further along in their pregnancy because they are IN that month of pregnancy. Let me explain. I am 5 and 1/2 months pregnant right now. That also means I am half way through my 6th month. However I will not BE 6 months pregnant for about 2 more weeks. I think at least 75% of expectant moms say they are 6 months pregnant when they are only IN their 6th month. When you become pregnant you are not immediately 1 month pregnant until a month has gone by. Therefore you are not 6 months pregnant until the 6th month has gone completely by. Let’s look at it another way. When you were born, you were not 1 year old until you had been alive in this world for 1 year. You were not 13 years old until you had been alive for 13 years. You did not immediately say you were 14 because you were now in the 14th year, you were still 13 until your 14th year was complete.
I had a mother of 2 tell me that women are actually pregnant for 10 months. No. You’re not. From day one until due day is NINE months. You are not 9 months pregnant until your due date. So if someone tells you they are 9 months pregnant, ask them how overdue they are.
Ahhhhh- I feel better now that that’s off my chest!

wait a second…. what is the gestation period for a human being… anywhere from 38 to 42 weeks right? Well that’s all told 10 months on the heavy end. 9 months on the light end. So if you go the whole term you would be over 9 months. Aargh ok now I’m upset because after thinking it through you’re right…. You’re only into your 8th month – at 40 weeks you’ll be in your 9th month but not through it until 42 weeks. I guess when you’re right you’re right.
Steph- Just remember that there are more than 4 weeks in a month- 4.3.
40 weeks= 9 months exactly.
Technically if you were to get THROUGH your 9th month, you’d be 44.3 weeks prego.
OUCH!
