Memorial Day
I may not agree with the overuse of the saying “God Bless America” b/c I believe He has. I may not agree with some of the good ol’ “Amercian” songs that portray a nation above all other nations. And I may not agree that a previous church I attended had their American flag hung higher than the Christian flag.
BUT. This weekend I encourage all Christians- whether they feel the church is the appropriate place to celebrate something that has to do with the nation we live in or not, whether they voted for the people in governments offices or not, whether they agree with the reasons we’re in a war or not- to just leave those feelings aside. I encourage ALL Christians to thank someone for their service for our country. As Christians I think people look at/to us to see how we handle times in our lives where we may disagree with how someone else is handling something that we’re a part of. Is it ok to challenge it? Sure. But when and where and how are the key components of doing so. Just as we are called to be loving and respectful to our spouse- I feel we are called to be the same to the Church- the body of Christ. So I ask that we as Christians be respectful and loving- even if we disagree with certain issues- big or small. I think we can all agree that people have sacrificed so much for the way we live today in this country. And it’s the PEOPLE- God’s own creations- that need to see our love. To see that we do honor the choice they made to sacrifice comfort, money, time, health, and life.
Whether you feel the cause they fight for is right or wrong, these servants fought because they feel it is right- because they are trying to leave the world a better place. And that alone deserves respect.
To those servants- thank you.

AMEN!
